In the past few weeks I have focused on resilience because I know from my studies and working with clients the positive impact it can have on our lives. Below are two more skills that can support you in being more resilient. I believe learning to use these skills will help you recover from setbacks more quickly as well as creating a deeper, richer life.
Control or No Control. Determine what you have control over and what you do not. On a piece of paper, make two columns. On the left side of the page, write Control and on the right side, Not Under My Control. Ask yourself: What do I have control over? In that column, write down your answers. For example, you can control the television shows my kids watch, your own attitude, the religion you practice, who you choose to socialize with, and so on.
