The following information was sent to us by the Maryland Stadium Authority's, Jan Hardesty:

 

In preparation for the Ravens playoff game on Sunday, M&T Bank Stadium is flying for the first time the commemorative 15-star, 15-stripe American flag – a replica of the Star-Spangled Banner that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the National Anthem following the all-night British bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1814.

 

Volunteers Needed to Lead Free Bone Builders Classes Throughout Montgomery County

 

Free Bone Builders classes to prevent and slow development of osteoporosis are offered at nine Montgomery County sites.  Osteoporosis causes bones to become thin and easily broken. Although osteoporosis can strike at any age, it affects one in three women and one in eight men over the age of 60. One out of every two women and one in four men over 50 will have an osteoporosis related fracture in their lifetime. The daytime Bone Builders classes help regular participants increase bone density naturally.

Montgomery County’s Fall Guide for Recreation And Park Programs Now Available

 

          The fall issue of the Montgomery County Guide for Recreation and Parks Programs is now available.  Recreation will begin accepting registrations for its fall programs and classes on Monday, August 15.  Registration for swim lessons opens on August 17.  Residents are encouraged to register early as many programs fill up quickly.

          Travel, sports leagues and classes are just some of the fall program offerings that are available through Montgomery County Recreation.   

   Closing dates for fall sports league registration is as follows:

August 22 – adult softball

August 26 – adult soccer and adult two-hand touch and co-rec flag football

With temperatures in the area expecting to soar in the high 90’s and 100's once again this week, Washington Sports Clubs is encouraging Washingtonians to take their workouts indoors to escape the heat. Clubs citywide will open their doors to the public for free workouts every time the thermometer hits 90 degrees through August.

Beginning this month you can work out for free in any WSC facility on days where the temperature tops 90 degrees.
