What Sport Makes The Best Movies?

What Sport Makes The Best Movies?

A recent preview of the new Marky Mark film The Fighter provoked a discussion among many of my friends that generated the question, "What is the best kind of sports film?" Many people have ranked sports movies over the years, and have done so in various ways: some by the individual sport, some lump all sports together, and some by sports movies starring Kevin Costner. I am a fan of both sports and movies and am therefore, by the transitive property, a fan of sport movies. To paraphrase Crash Davis:

Montgomery County Bike Projects Moving Slowly

The WashCycle reports that with the Bradley Boulevard bike project having recently been presented, it joins a growing list of future bike projects in Montgomery County. But only one project has money budgeted for it so far. That's the MacArthur Boulevard Bikeway project.

The project will include an 8-foot-wide shared-use hiker/biker path running parallel to MacArthur on the south side, Miller said. The shoulder of the road will also be widened to provide a 2-foot shoulder on each side of the road for faster cyclists.

Senior Players Kick Off Tickets Fore Charity

Tournament officials at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship have extended local charitable organizations the opportunity to participate in TICKETS Fore CHARITY, an innovative fundraising platform designed to improve the quality of life in communities where the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events are held. The program offers registered 501(c)(3) organizations a chance to raise funds by promoting ticket sales to the Champions Tour's final major championship of the year, the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship to be held Oct. 7-10 at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md.

TICKETS Fore CHARITY enables participating charities to receive contributions based on the number of tickets sold in their name. One-hundred percent of the net proceeds from AREVA Championship Club tickets purchased through the program will go to the charity promoting the sale. Net proceeds excludes taxes and handling charges.

Potomac’s Own Wins Two Titles at USATF National Junior Olympics

Ronald Darby from Potomac, Md. defeated many; winning two sprint titles at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Ca.

A member of the 747 track club, Darby won the 100 and 200 meter dashes in the intermediate boys age group. He ran the fastest qualifying time in the 200 meters (21.52) and performed even better the next day, lowering it to a winning and personal-best time of 21.24.

This isn’t the first win for Darby, he also won three gold medals in the Maryland 3A State Meet held in May.
