Low-Income Montgomery County Family Receives Christmas Wish

Just in time for Christmas,  single low-income mother of two, Shanita Godfrey, was awarded a 2001 Toyota Camry by Vehicles For Change; a Maryland nonprofit who refurbishes donated cars and awards them to qualified low-income families at affordable prices.

“It means a lot. My kid’s love going different places but it just takes too much time and they are always exhausted by the time we get there. Now we can actually enjoy going out together. This is the best Christmas ever,” explained Shanita Godfrey.

Godfrey had a five-hour round-trip commute a day to her Gaithersburg job and children’s day care via public transportation. Now with her new car, her commute is cut in half.

“We always try to reach out this time of year because it means a lot to our families. Shanita is a great person and working so hard to make ends meet. This car will make a world of difference for her and her family and it seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to help,” said Vehicles’ For Change Marty Schwartz.

Since 1999, Vehicles For Change has awarded more than 3,500 refurbished cars to families in Maryland, Washington and Virginia. Just this past year they awarded 500.

All VFC vehicles come with a six-month/6,000-mile warranty, and the organization guarantees optional low-income loans for its car buyers, enabling them to establish credit.

Vehicles For Change is always looking for donations and all donations are tax deductible. For more information click here.
