News

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- A special education teacher's assistant at a Potomac high school was arrested last week on sexual abuse charges, according to Montgomery County Public Schools.

Arsenio Malondras was arrested from charges that stem from an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2004. Police say the assault involved a female family member.

Malondras was a special education paraeducator at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Md. MCPS say the charges were unrelated to his work.

Montgomery County Public Schools released the following statement Monday:

"We are aware of the arrest of Mr. Arsenio Malondras, who has served as a special education paraeducator at Winston Churchill High School since 2013. The police have informed us that the allegations that led to Mr. Malondras' arrest occurred in 2004 and are not related to his work at Montgomery County Public Schools. Still, we find the nature of these allegations disturbing and have been working closely with the police since they notified us they were investigating this matter. Mr. Malondras has worked for MCPS since 2006. We have notified the Churchill community of Mr. Malondras' arrest. We will be separately notifying the families of students he has worked with at MCPS."

If anyone has information that investigators should know, MCPS encourages them to contact the Montgomery County Police Department's Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
