Metro banana peel case to continue Friday

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A man accused of putting a banana peel on the ground of a Metro station and intentionally slipping on it in order to sue Metro had his case continued until Friday.

We're told that a mental evaluation was ordered.

Maurice Owens reported the incident on August 8 at an elevator at the Potomac Avenue Metro Station located at 700 14th Street, SE. In an interview Owens said he needed $15,000 to settle his claim. He alleged that he slipped from the banana peel since nobody had cleaned it up before he entered the elevator.

After reviewing surveillance video, officials saw that the elevator was empty before Owens entered the elevator. He then drops the banana peel, steps on it as he exits the elevator, and falls to the ground.

Owens was charged with second-degree fraud.
