Police: Man shot coworker's wife, then himself

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man accused of stealing from his workplace killed his coworker's wife and then himself, Montgomery County police said.

Andrew Racca, 42, of Chevy Chase worked with the victim's husband, C. Richard Mattingly. On Tuesday afternoon, Mattingly's wife Caroyln, 57, and Andrew Racca were found dead just minutes apart.

Racca was found dead from a bullet wound at the scene of a car crash on Piney Meetinghouse Road near River Road and Carolyn Mattingly was found after a small fire inside a garage at 12045 Great Elm Drive, officials said.

Carolyn Mattingly cause of death is a gunshot wound and is being considered a homicide, police said on Oct. 3.

2 extracted from vehicle in Md. high water

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two people have been extracted from a vehicle in high water in Potomac, Md., authorities said.

Rescue crews responded to Bradley Blvd with boats in several feet of water, authorities said.

FOUND: Montgomery County girl, 15

UPDATE: Police say this missing girl has been found safe and unharmed.


POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Montgomery County Police Department is looking for a missing 15-year-old teenager from Potomac, Md.

Police said Zymirah McGill, 15, of the 14700 block of Latakia Place in Potomac, Md. was reported missing by her family.

She is described as a black teenager with brown eyes, and long black hair with blond highlights, police said. She is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds.

Her family and police are worried for her emotional and physical well-being.

Hiker who died on trail near Potomac River ID'd

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police have identified the man who died after hiking on a trail near the Potomac River on Sunday.

Police say 25-year-old Rian Avarham Khalder of Silver Spring fell during a rock climb Sunday afternoon.

According to police, Khalder was hiking with his 14-year-old brother on Offut Island near the Angler Inn boat camp. Police say Khalder was climbing when a portion of rocks gave away and he fell. Rocks, including one large boulder, fell on him, according to police.

Khalder suffered serious injuries and died. Police say that no foul play is suspected and The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will perform an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

Rescue underway for injured Billy Goat Trail hiker

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials are on scene of a technical rescue along the Billy Goat Trail Friday morning.

Officials received a call at 8:30 a.m. for a person injured on Offut Island, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Motorcyclist ID'd in fatal Md. accident

POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA9) -- A motorcycle rider is dead Wednesday after a car hit the motorcycle on River Road at Rivers Edge Drive in Potomac, Md. Wednesday afternoon.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, the accident happened around 3:53 p.m.

Investigation shows that a 2014 Honda NC700 was going south on River Road and a 2011 BMW X5 was going northbound on River Road, police said.

The BMW tried to make a left onto Rivers Edge Drive and crashed into the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died at the hospital, police said. The driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The rider of the motorcycle has been identified as Navdeep Singh Kang, 25, of Sewickley, Pa.
