Thanksgiving: A Time to Give Thanks

With Thanksgiving less than 24 hours away, now is the time to reflect on how blessed we truly are.

Wednesday, we walked around the city of Gaithersburg asking residents what they were most thankful for this holiday season. Nearly all the people we spoke with said they were thankful for their friends and family as well as a job in these tough economic times.

It’s been a tough year for many, and although we should never wait for one specific day to give thanks, this time of year reminds us to be grateful for all that we are blessed with whether it be health, the love of family and friends, or just the ability to put food on the table.

It's the perfect time to ask yourself, "What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?"

Wishing everyone a very safe and happy holiday with lots of love and turkey.

THE BIG REVEAL: 1 Volunteer + 19,000 Hours = 1 Extreme Exterior Makeover

THE BIG REVEAL: 1 Volunteer + 19,000 Hours = 1 Extreme Exterior Makeover

Gary Gaal, winner of the Extreme Exterior Makeover from Case Design/Remodeling and Ply Gem, continues to inspire with his community service.

A recurring question during the exterior makeover of Gary Gaal's home was: "How does someone volunteer so many hours?" For Gaal, it's easy. "I see people on the worst day of their lives and try to make it better." Gaal works every hurricane, flood and snowstorm and manages the scene at auto accidents and any other disaster that may occur. He is dedicated to helping others and is extremely proud of becoming a Fire Unit Officer which puts him in charge as an Fire Engine OIC and in command of the fire ground as a first arriving engine officer. One example: when an 11-year-old boy was thrown 30 feet off his bike after being struck by a car, Gaal was the first to arrive, controlled the scene and administered life saving techniques until the medics arrived. The victim survived.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I recently watched the movie Snow White while babysitting for a friend’s daughter so she could get out.  The last time I had seen the movie was many years ago when I watched it with my kids.  As I have witnessed many times in the past couple of decades, the message of Positive Self Talk was loud and clear.

When the evil queen asked, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?” The mirror’s reply, “Snow White” made the evil Queen furious. You see, it wasn’t enough for the Queen that she was beautiful.  Instead, the Queen chose to see that she wasn’t enough. There was someone more beautiful than she.
