The City of Rockville will celebrate 50 years of summer camps when school is dismissed this summer. Registration for Rockville's camps begins Jan. 25.

When Rockville's first summer camps were held in 1962, only a handful of families took part in the programs. Today, more than 2,000 campers, from ages 3 to 15, participate in a wide range of camp offerings.

The Summer Camp Guide is available online and at City facilities. You can find it online at

www.rockvillemd.gov/recreation/guide/camp12.

Camp registration for Rockville residents begins Jan. 25 and registration for non-residents begins Feb. 8. Register through Rock Enroll on the Internet, mail, fax or in-person.

This year, Rockville is offering a variety of new camps, including five new nature camps that teach art, wilderness skills and offer a chance to earn student service learning hours; or camps that feature themes based around books, football and 10 and Under Tennis.

In addition to the new camps, campers and parents will also find plenty of standard favorites, including a chance for children ages 7-10 to use their creativity in a variety of multi-media projects (Creative Crafts); several Mad Science camps choices for children ages 6-11 (Earth, Space and Beyond, Secret Agent and Science in Motion); sports camps for every age and interest; camps to hone your manners or writing skills; and camps for preschoolers.
