Photo Gallery | Holiday Market Comes to Silver Spring

Silver Spring is offering a new destination to shop and sell locally this holiday season at the Inaugural Flower Avenue Holiday Market presented by Orion’s Attic.

The market will run every Saturday through December 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with local vendors featuring one-of-a-kind antiques, art, collectibles, cosmetics, furniture, jewelry, and treasures of all kinds.

“We hope to make the holiday market a must-visit Saturday shopping event and a community showcase,” says Christopher Lancette, co-owner of Orion’s Attic, whose online antique and flea market store based in Silver Spring is committed to "making a living and a difference."

Orion’s Attic makes a charitable contribution for every item sold to Gaithersburg non-profit, House With A Heart Pet Sanctuary. With the help of Greg Fernebok, the owner of the Flower Avenue Shopping Center, a percentage of the profits from the Flower Market will be donated to support IMPACT Silver Spring and its economic empowerment initiatives in the Long Branch community.

“There is a lot to celebrate in today's Long Branch. This entrepreneurial private sector venture is a welcome addition to the fabric of the community,” says Reemberto Rodriguez, director of the Silver Spring Regional Center.

Located in the large parking lot on the corner of Flower Avenue and Arliss Street (near Piney Branch Road), this holiday market provides first time vendors the opportunity to market their talents and ideas to the public and gives local charities a chance to spread the news of their important work.

Due to the overwhelming support from the community, Christopher Lancette feels they may be able to create a market that runs from April through December in 2012.

“There are a ton of small businesses in this area that offer unique cuisine and retail options at a reasonable price. This market is the chance for them to work together and expand their outreach,” Lancette said.

Plan on stopping by this Saturday, Dec 3, to experience great food by Silver Spring’s hidden gem, La Escudilla, which specializes in homemade Guatemalan, Mexican, Honduran, and Salvadoran food.
